The 1959 Les Paul Standard is revered as the “holy grail” of vintage guitars, with only around 650 original models ever produced. These guitars are extremely rare and unattainable for most, but the Gibson Murphy Lab now offers an extraordinary replica, crafted by a team of experts led by Tom Murphy, one of the pioneers of guitar aging.

Gibson Murphy Lab is a specialized division of the Gibson Custom Shop, dedicated to creating historically accurate recreations of Gibson’s most legendary instruments. Under Tom Murphy’s leadership, the team meticulously recreates the sound, feel, and character of vintage guitars. The attention to detail is exceptional, from laser-scanning the dimensions to replicate the exact size and shape of the originals, to reverse-engineering the lacquer for ultra-realistic aging. This 1959 Les Paul Standard replica is as close as you can get to the real thing.

This model features a 1-piece lightweight mahogany back and a 2-piece figured maple top, finished in the iconic Factory Burst. The solid mahogany neck has an authentic ‘59 Medium C-Shape profile and a 24.75” scale length, topped with a smooth Indian rosewood fretboard with 22 Historic Medium Jumbo frets and a 12” radius. The guitar is equipped with an ABR-1 bridge, a lightweight aluminum stop bar, and Kluson single line, single ring tuning machines.

For electronics, this Les Paul Standard is fitted with two unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups, controlled by a 3-way selector switch, and dual volume and tone knobs, allowing for precise control over your sound.

The guitar also features Cellulose Nitrate Trapezoid inlays, gold butyrate top hat knobs, 1-ply Royalite body binding, and nickel Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged hardware to complement the guitar’s Ultra Light Aged finish, which simulates decades of light play wear, giving it a unique character and feel akin to an original from Gibson’s Golden Era.

Additional accessories include .010 - .046 strings, a Brown/Pink Lifton Reissue 5-Latch Case, a Certificate of Authenticity, a Mounted Custom Shop Switch Plate Medallion, and a Reissue Switch Backplate. This model is also available with Ultra Light Aging in other finishes, including Sunrise Teaburst and Southern Fade Burst.
