The 1954 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty VOS in Ebony is a meticulously handcrafted guitar, designed by Gibson’s Custom Shop luthiers with a strong emphasis on historical accuracy, creating a truly heirloom-worthy instrument.

VOS, or ‘Vintage Original Spec,’ indicates that this guitar is built to faithfully recreate the experience of playing a Golden-era Gibson.

This Black Beauty features a solid, non-weight-relieved, 1-piece mahogany body with a carved mahogany top, delivering warmth and midrange characteristics distinct from Les Pauls with maple tops. The 1-piece mahogany neck has a medium chunky profile and a 12” radius, paired with a smooth ebony fingerboard that enhances stability and playability, especially for faster playing. The guitar is equipped with an ABR-1 bridge and a lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece for reliable performance.

For pickups, the Black Beauty is fitted with a pair of high-output P-90s, offering a versatile range of tones from biting leads to rich sustain. The neck position features a rare “Staple” P-90 pickup, known for its brighter and more articulate sound, while the bridge houses a standard P-90. This combination allows the guitar to deliver a unique sound that cuts through any mix and excels in high-gain settings.

The 1954 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty VOS is finished with a nitrocellulose lacquer, which is thinner than modern polyurethane finishes, allowing the wood to breathe and enhancing the guitar’s resonance. Complementing the elegant ebony finish are gold hardware, pearl block inlays, and Kluson Waffleback tuners, all of which provide excellent performance and reliability.

This guitar comes with a Gibson Custom Historic Brown Lifton Hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity, completing the package for this iconic instrument.
