A string’s thickness and material can have a major effect on an instrument’s feel and tone. Thinner strings produce a lighter, airier sound and tend to be found on an electric guitar as they’re easier to bend during solos. Beginners often use a light string gauge as they’re easier to press down on whilst fretting. Thicker strings offer extra power and volume which is why an acoustic guitar or classical guitar tends to be string with them. It’s worth trying a few different string gauges out to find the best one for your style of playing.
