Laney A-DUO 120W 2x8 Acoustic Combo Overview

The Laney A-DUO is a portable acoustic instrument combo with a range of acoustic-friendly controls and variables including digital reverb and chorus. Designed and engineered in the UK, the A-DUO calls on Laney’s 50-year history of amplifier building to provide versatility, portability, and reliability to all levels of player.

At only 10.5kg (23.2lbs), the A-DUO is very portable but can deliver the power and headroom for large stage performances. An ultra-efficient, dual mono (60W RMS total) Class D power amplifier is combined with a pair of 8” custom-designed dual-cone woofers to deliver articulate, transparent acoustic sound reproduction with both punch and high end clarity.

The A-DUO has been designed to adapt to multiple performance situations. Placed on the floor it has a minimal stage footprint and can even be used as a performance seat in this position. Alternatively, it can be placed on its side feet for tonal variation or mounted on a speaker stand for maximum projection.

The A-DUO has two completely independent channel strips, both of which can accept either XLR or Jack inputs, provide 3-band equalization and feature a ‘Shape’ control for instant single button optimization. This flexibility allows for connection of a mic and instrument, two different acoustic instruments or even a blend of separate mic and pickup connections from the same instrument. Plus, with an additional Aux in connection for backing tracks, the A-DUO is ideal for live performances.

Both channels also feature their own Chorus and/or Reverb for further sound enhancement without the need for external effects units. Each channel’s Chorus is visibly engaged with a green LED light. This Chorus level can then also be adjusted by simply holding down the Chorus switch and turning the Reverb control pot. On letting go of the Chorus switch, the chorus level is stored and will even be recalled at the next switch on.

Reverb and Chorus can be remotely bypass via FS2-MINI footswitch (available separately)

A simple but very effective Anti-Feedback button can be engaged to automatically scan for and then eliminate unwanted feedback. A Phase switch is also on hand to remove of destructive interference which can occur when a player is too close to the amplifier; a simple solution at the switch of a single button.

On both XLR channel inputs, Phantom power is permanently available for use with a condenser or dynamic microphone. A balanced XLR D.I. out provides direct, mic-free connection to a mixer or active speaker system for larger performance situations. Four digital EQ pre-sets provide sound global enhancement options depending on situation and setup.

I HAVE ONLY AWARDED 4 STARS AS I HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO FULLY APPRAISE THE LANEY, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE DONE I AM IMPRESSED. VERY WELL MADE AND WELL THOUGHT OUT FOR VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL USE. THE SOUND QUALITY IS VERY PURE TO MY ACOUSTIC GUITAR. THE CONTROLS GIVE LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES TO REFINE THE SOUND TO MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS . HAVE NOT ADJUSTED THE CONTROLS FOR VARIOUS ROOMS YET BUT SO FAR VERY PLEASED.

Excellent for the cost. I’d like a protective cover to be readily available in the UK as I’m having to get one made.
