Ibanez Guitars are highly regarded amongst professional musicians for their innovative, reliable and high-quality instruments. For over 60 years, they’ve been creating superb electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, effects pedals and more at a wide range of price points.
Japanese guitar brand Ibanez have been designing and crafting exceptional instruments since 1957. Whilst Ibanez electric guitars can vary from solid body electrics to jazz-focussed semi-acoustics, they’re well-known for their ergonomic, high-performance instruments. These models, such as the Ibanez RG series, are hugely popular with Rock and Metal players thanks to their lightning-fast necks, angular body shapes, bold finish options and high-output pickups. There’s a reason why an Ibanez electric guitar can be found in the hands of virtuoso players such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Lara Basilio, Nita Strauss and George Benson.
As well as electrics, acoustics, basses and folk instruments such as mandolins, Ibanez make guitar accessories and effects pedals. The Ibanez Tube Screamer overdrive pedal is one of the most iconic stompboxes ever made and is a core element of many legendary guitarist’s tone, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa, John Mayer, The Edge and Eric Johnson. Their Mini pedals pack their vintage pedal designs into a compact, pedalboard-friendly design. Ibanez also builds a variety of left-handed guitars, including left-handed electric guitars and left-handed bass guitars, for the leftie guitarist who wants a high-performance instrument with a superb tone.

Why choose an Ibanez guitar?
The name Ibanez is associated with excellent craftsmanship, tonal versatility and smooth playability among guitarists. Whether you go for one of their Japanese-made Prestige models or an affordable Gio series, you can expect a quality instrument that’ll inspire you for years to come. If you’re a Rock or Metal player, Ibanez offer a huge selection of solid-body electric guitars perfect for those styles.
There are a huge variety of Ibanez guitars available, from budget-friendly models that are ideal for a beginner to world-class instruments for the most discerning professional. With so many options, there’s bound to be an Ibanez guitar that’s perfect for you.
Are Ibanez guitars just for Rock and Metal players?
You don’t need to be a shredder to appreciate Ibanez! Although Ibanez are a popular brand with Rock and Metal guitarists, they also make instruments that are suited to other genres. The Ibanez Artcore series offers a range of semi-acoustic and hollow body guitars that are perfect for Jazz and Blues styles whilst the double-cutaway AR series calls back to one of the earliest original Ibanez designs.
Where are Ibanez guitars made?
Ibanez guitars are manufactured in Asia. The most affordable models are built in China, whilst mid-range Ibanez guitars are made in Indonesia. The best instruments Ibanez have to offer are crafted in Japan using the best tonewoods, components and manufacturing methods available.
Who plays Ibanez guitars?
Ibanez guitars are favoured by a whole host of renowned guitarists, with some having their own signature models. Steve Vai, Ichika Nito, Nita Strauss, Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, Lara Basilio, Munky (Korn), Noodles (The Offspring), Mårten Hagström (Meshuggah), George Benson, Pat Metheney and Yvette Young (Covet) are just some of the players who have their own Ibanez guitar model. Steve Vai has two entire ranges associated with him - the JEM series and the PIA series. In fact, the RG Series, one of the most popular Ibanez models, began as a more affordable alternative to the JEM range.
What are the different Ibanez electric guitar ranges?
The RG series, Q series and S series offer sleek, high-performance instruments that allow guitarists to pull off technically-demanding styles with ease. The Iron Label series is geared towards the heavier side of Metal, with tone and aesthetics to match. The AZ series presents a more classic approach to instrument design that fuses traditional tone and looks with ultra-slick playability. The Artcore and AR ranges are ideal for Blues and Jazz players. The Gio series offers beginner guitarists an accessible entry point into the Ibanez universe.
A History of Ibanez
If you wanted a total history of Ibanez you’d have to go back to 1908, when a company named Hoshino began as a sheet music store and later a music products distributor in Nagoya, Japan. By the mid-80s, Ibanez introduced the JEM, JS, RG and S series and redefined what a Rock guitar could be. While models from those series continue to be some of the best-selling guitars in the world, Ibanez never stops imagining and still set the standard for many players in the fusion, progressive and modern metal circles. Ibanez is still toured the world over, not just by players that helped to shape the company and their guitars, like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert, but also by greats from across the board such as jazz legends George Benson and Pat Metheny, fusion virtuoso Tom Quayle and many of the best bass players in the business.
With starter packs and the amazing Gio Series, Ibanez has made sure that even guitarists and bass players just starting their musical journeys can access incredible quality instruments and amazing sounds that will fuel their passion for music and help create the stars of the future.
Ibanez basses sit comfortably in the hands of some of the best players in the world, featuring on the best-selling albums, biggest tours and shows and most influential music ever produced. They continue to go from strength to strength, crossing genres and pushing boundaries with unparalleled playability and sound.
The future of Ibanez is always a vision of what players want and need from their guitars.
