Gibson SG Special, Vintage Cherry Overview

The Gibson SG models became a well respected and beloved model across the 60s to the present day and are no stranger to any guitarist. The Gibson SG Special embodies the early 60s style and unmistakable sound heard throughout the classic rock genre.

SG Construction

The SG Special boasts a Mahogany body that delivers a warm tone with exceptional frequency lows and sustain, despite its thin design. The Mahogany tonewood is a trademark in Gibson’s guitar design, and for a good reason.

Constructed with a comfortable SlimTaper Mahogany neck, the SG Special delivers, along with its rosewood fretboard that feels smooth under the fingers.

Sound and Hardware

The SG Special comes with two P-90 pickups that differ between a fat boxy sound when put on overdrive and smooth clean tones, both providing an articulate, stunning sound. The SG Special is equipped with 3-way switching with hand-wired controls, featuring Orange Drop capacitors and Vintage Deluxe Tuners.

For a slight upgrade, consider the SG Standard series.
