Zoom H8 + MS Pack Limited Edition Handy Recorder Overview
The Zoom H8 + MS Pack Limited Edition is a special edition of the Zoom Handyrecorder H8. It comes with the microphone capsules XYH-6 and MSH-6.
The Zoom H8 Handy Recorder is ideal for various purposes where good audio quality is important. It can record 12 simultaneous recording tracks, has interchangeable capsules and a touchscreen LCD on which you can quickly and easily choose the right app for your situation. Thanks to the Podcast App, recording professional podcasts is easy. The app has dedicated Sound Pads and via the touchscreen you can quickly and easily select sound effects, music beds and more. In total, you can choose from 13 high-quality recordings and upload them via SD card.
If you want to record as a band, this app is ideal. The most important controls are quickly at hand such as: audio levels, metering, faders and more. You can use 10 inputs and 12 tracks. Use EQ and compression mixing to enhance your sound recordings. The Field App is ideal for recording audio on location such as conferences. You have access to large meters for each track, ensuring your recordings never break down. Adjust input type, lo-cut, compression, limiter, noise gate and other settings easily and quickly.
With the Zoom XYH-6 capsule, you can significantly expand the capabilities of your H8 recorder. The XYH-6 X/Y capsule adds two balanced, high-quality, unidirectional microphones to the Zoom H8. This type of microphone is particularly sensitive to frontal noise and less sensitive to side or rear noise. Technically, this is called a cardioid polar pattern. These microphones have the largest diaphragm area (14.6 mm) available in a mobile recorder to date. Playing stereophonic X/Y recordings in mono results in a fuller sound than you would achieve with a microphone.
With the Zoom MSH-6 capsule, you can also expand the capabilities of the H8 recorder. Immerse yourself in the M/S (“mid-side”) recording technique: a fantastic process that allows you to change the stereo base width even after recording. This makes this technique particularly suitable for use in film, video and television projects. Although the MSH-6 MS capsule looks like a single microphone, it contains two microphones placed directly above each other. One of the microphones in the MSH-6 is unidirectional (it is most sensitive to sound incidence from the front, less sensitive to sound incidence from the side and rear), while the other is bidirectional (this type is more sensitive to sound incidence from the front and rear, less sensitive to sound incidence from the side). Within the H6 MS capsule, the unidirectional “centre” microphone faces forward, while the bidirectional “side” microphone is angled perpendicular to it.
