The Gates Bundle is an indispensable tool for audio engineers, offering both practical and creative solutions. With the introduction of two new gate modules, Gate: Classic and Gate: Drums, you can now access a wide range of gating options seamlessly within your Virtual Mix Rack workflow.
Gate: Classic is a straightforward gate that efficiently removes background noise from various acoustically-recorded sources like guitars and vocals. It features traditional parameters such as threshold, ratio, range, attack, release, slope, and two distinct gate modes:
- Classic: This mode uses standard detection based on signal amplitude and allows you to filter the input signal using highpass and lowpass filters.
- Vocal: Designed specifically for vocals, this mode incorporates internal filtering to better detect natural breathing. It also includes a unique timing circuit for smooth gate opening and closing.
Gate: Classic also provides highly-accurate sidechain filters, offering versatile creative options throughout the mix.
On the other hand, Gate: Drums takes a different approach by focusing on transient input. It triggers the gate based on sharp and soft transients rather than volume levels. This enables you to separate the transient from the signal tail and apply different processing to each component.
Gate: Drums is divided into three sections:
- Transient Detection: This allows you to adjust the detection to capture only the desired transients.
- Gate: Here, you can fine-tune the gate’s floor and timing.
- Debleed: This section filters the tail when a transient is detected.
The module also provides detection filters, which allow you to filter the signal before detection, ensuring that the gate only responds to specific frequencies.
Additional controls in Gate: Drums include:
- Transient Detection: Controls the gate’s sensitivity to transients.
- Detection Threshold: Enables you to focus on a specific amplitude range for precise transient detection.
- Debleed: Activating Debleed On/Off enables dynamic filters.
- Release: Adjusts the speed of filter activation once a transient is detected.
