Sequential Trigon-6 Polyphonic Synthesizer Overview
A punchy, powerful and portable polyphonic analogue synth with 3 voltage-controlled oscillators and a juicy ladder filter per voice, a dual effects engine and Vintage knob.
Fat Analogue Sound
The Sequential Trigon-6 polyphonic synthesizer puts a new spin on the format introduced by the best-selling Prophet-6 and OB-6. Whilst the Prophet-6 and OB-6 are modern takes on classic Prophet and Oberheim synths respectively, the Trigon-6 is akin to a 6-voice Minimoog Model D. Featuring 3 VCOs and low-pass ladder per voice, the Trigon-6 adds a fat and creamy Moog-style flavour to Sequential’s line-up of 4-octave polysynths.
Brand New Filters and Oscillators
Though the Trigon-6 shares a similar format and the same voice count as the popular Prophet-6 and OB-6, its architecture allows it to carve out a distinctive sonic signature. Three newly-designed voltage-controlled oscillators and an enhanced version of the ladder filter found in the Pro 3 and Pro 3 SE comprise the heart of the Trigon-6 sound.
All three discrete analogue oscillators feature selectable triangle, sawtooth and pulse waves. The pulse waves have adjustable pulse widths that can be adjusted via the dedicated knob or modulated. Similar to a Minimoog, the third oscillator can be used as a low-frequency oscillator in Lo mode. It also has a fourth selectable waveshape - sawtooth with a downwards ramp. Oscillator 2 can be synced to Oscillator 1 for those harmonically-rich and metallic timbres.
There’s more to the resonant low-pass filter than you might expect. It features dedicated drive and feedback controls for instant grit, warmth and fatness as well as switchable 2/4 pole modes for extra sonic versatility. Soft and subtle to bright and biting, the Sequential Trigon-6 can do it all and more.
Knob-per-function Design
Like the Prophet-6 and OB-6, the Trigon-6 is an absolute dream to play and programme. Its knob-per-function layout gives you instant access to all the sound-shaping parameters, making sound design sessions and live tweaking intuitive and inspiring. Pressing the Preset button enables panel mode, where the settings immediately jump to the knob’s physical position. Perfect for synthesists who prefer an old-school approach to patching.
Once you’ve dialled in a patch you like, you can store it in one of the 500 user bank slots for instant recall. 500 factory presets created by top sound designers provide you with an array of superb basses, leads, pads and sound effects.
The premium semi-weighted keybed features both velocity-sensitivity and assignable channel aftertouch and professional, expressive playbility. A compact four-octave footprint makes transporting between gigs and fitting on smaller stages a breeze. The backlit pitch and mod wheels feel robust and responsive, whilst easily being seen on a dark stage.
Classic Poly Mod
As you’d expect from a Sequential poly synth, the Trigon-6 is equipped with a host of sound-sculpting features. There are two super-snappy ADSR envelopes per voice, a syncable LFO with a variety of waveshapes and destinations and the iconic Poly Mod section, a powerful sound design tool that originated with the Prophet-5. Poly Mod allows you to route the Filter Envelope and Oscillator 3 to various destinations in bipolar amounts to create dynamic and evolving sounds.
The Trigon-6 features a Unison mode with a configurable voice count, giving you the option to stack up to 18 analogue oscillators for truly earth-shattering leads and basses. Voices can also be gradually spread across the stereo field using the Pan Spread knob.
Instant Vintage Flavour
The Vintage knob is a unique Sequential feature that introduces variations from voice to voice. This emulates the organic character found in vintage synths, where each voice behaves slightly differently from the other. There’s a wide range within the Vintage knob, from precise and consistent to unpredictable and wonky.
Performance Features
The Trigon-6 is outfitted with an arpeggiator and polyphonic step sequencer to help you generate new ideas and patterns. Both can be synced to the internal or external clock via MIDI or USB. The arp features multiple play modes and can span up to three octaves whilst the sequencer can include ties and rests. You can play over the top of sequences using any remaining voices.
With both full-size MIDI and MIDI over USB, the Trigon-6 can be controlled and sequenced externally as well as act as a controller keyboard for your software and hardware. Virtually all the knobs can be automated via MIDI and can be assigned to functions within your DAW.
Dual Effects Engine
At the end of the signal path is a dual effects section, which provides you with studio-grade effects to enhance your patches. There are modulation effects including chorus, phaser, flanger and a ring modulator as well as reverbs and delays. The delays can be synced to clock for expansive, rhythmic sounds. A separate stereo analogue distortion is ready to add crunch and aggression with the tweak of a knob.
