Roland Jupiter Series
Browse our RangeThe flagship performance synthesizer, steeped in history and game-changing technologies.
The name JUPITER has marked the pinnacle of Roland’s synthesizer range and technologies since 1978 with the JUPITER-4. JUPITER has always been the name given to their flagship synthesizer range, boasting Roland’s most advanced sound technologies, playability and crafted with premium-quality components.
This esteemed Roland synth range has become one of the most desired and iconic on the planet. Giants like the JUPITER-6 and JUPITER-8 now sell on the secondhand market for well over £10,000 and are almost as rare as a fabergé egg.
The current line of JUPITER synthesizers still top the class in Roland’s range and continue to build on the original legacy with two new additions with the Jupiter-X and Jupiter-Xm.
The Range:
Jupiter-X | Jupiter-Xm
Both JUPITER Series Synths come with an extended warranty when registering your product with Roland Backstage.
40-Years Of Synth History Meets The Modern Era
The two latest variants in the Jupiter Series share the original premise as the early synthesizers did, which is to offer Roland’s best and most advanced technologies. Both the Jupiter-X and Jupiter-Xm are driven by the Zen-Core Eco-System.
They feature faithful recreations of some of the most sought-after synthesizers from Roland’s esteemed history, hands-on control and come in two different sizes to cater for all synthesizer applications.
Iconic Name and Classic Sounds
There is no argument that the Roland JUPITER is one of the greatest sounding Synthesizers to have ever been made and it can be yours to own in the X/Xm - and Roland hasn’t stopped there.
As well as the acclaimed JUPITER-8, the Jupiter-X/Xm features full recreations of some of the most lusted over Roland Heritage Synthesisers. The Jupiter-X & Xm are not just remakes, they also include models of the Juno-106, SH-101, JX-8P, XV-5080 and users can even purchase a JD-800 expansion through Roland Cloud.
Synthesizer Sounds And Much More
The Roland Global CEO, Jun Ichi Miki, himself a former Roland Engineer, lead the design project of the X and Xm. He set out with the dream of creating a flagship synthesizer that could layer many classic synths together at once, combine them with modern tones, to create sounds that have never been heard before.
In addition to the above vintage sounds, the Jupiter Series include essential sounds for the modern keyboard player. Thanks to the inclusion of Roland Zen-Core, the X and Xm make use of this innovative sound library, which features sounds covering all styles.
You can find non-synthesizer sounds, such as; Acoustic Piano, E.Piano, Organ, Guitar/Bass, Strings, Brass, Wind, Choir, FX and Drums. Zen-Core even features its own synth and include DSP effects, making the Jupiter Series a modern synthesizer range too.
Layers, Upon Layers
What makes the X and Xm so powerful, is the ability to stack numerous different synthesizers/instruments together in a single performance.
There are 4 Synthesiser parts available to each of the 256 scenes, meaning you can control, layer and operate 4 completely different synthesisers, simultaneously. There’s even a 5th layer that can be used for Rhythm Tracks, where legendary Roland Drum Machine samples such as the TR-808, TR-909, TR-707/727, TR-606/626 and CR-78 can also be used.
Unlike the original JUPITER, there’s no need to worry about polyphony, as each of the vintage model expansions within the current Jupiter range features up to 32-notes. The Zen-Core sounds feature 256-note polyphony and if you're stacking a mixture of Model Expansions and Zen-Core sounds within your scene, Jupiter will algorithmically assign the 256-note maximum polyphony to ensure there are no dropouts.
Hands-On Control, Never Seen Before
Any great synth needs onboard parameters for making edits/adjustments quickly and easily. The Jupiter-X/Xm have all the knobs you could ever need, each running at a super-hi resolution, with 1024 steps. They’re also incredibly durable, as they are metal encoders.
The Oscillators, Envelopes, Filters, LFOs, Mixer, Arppegiator, Effects and System Controls are intuitively laid out across the front panel, making both the X and Xm perfect to edit in a truly analogue-style feel.
Vintage Synthesizers are lauded for the imperfections and quirks that contribute to their characterful sound. In the Jupiter-X/Xm, Roland wanted to preserve this feeling and have included user control over the synthesizer model’s age, condition and pitch drift.
Furthermore, there is an included Temperature Gauge that will automatically adjust these settings based on the true temperature of the X/Xm’s circuits - this makes the Jupiter Range live and breathe like an analogue synth.
Innovative Performances With i-Arpeggiator
A Jupiter wouldn’t be a Jupiter without the inclusion of a groundbreaking technology/spec. With the latest Series, Roland has delivered once again with i-Arpeggiator.
I-Arpeggiator is a form of intelligent arpeggios that create melodic and rhythmic parts to support your playing. When i-Arpeggiator is enabled, you can play the Jupiter as normal and the other parts within your scene will react and support your performance in real-time.
Think of it as though Jupiter is your band and you are the composer. If you change dynamics or feel during your performance, the i-Arpeggiator will follow your every move.
For users that wish to create their own patterns, Jupiter features an onboard step sequencer of up to 64 steps.
Premium Hardware And Modern Connectivity
The Jupiter-X and Jupiter-Xm seamlessly integrate into your studio, as each has built-in Audio/MIDI USB interfaces. Each of the 5 audio channels transmits separately, as well as hardware connectivity with a 5-pin din MIDI I/O Port too.
For users that use their own pre-amp/interface, the Jupiter X has balanced XLR Outputs, for a high-quality audio connection both live and in the studio.
In the 1980s, the original Roland design team always dreamed of creating a synthesizer that had powerful built-in speakers. They wanted to replicate the same experience of playing an Acoustic Instrument but were always limited by the technological restrictions of their time.
With the Jupiter-X and Xm, this dream is now a reality, with both versions featuring in-built speakers for a truly plug-and-play experience.
To top things off, the Jupiter-X/Xm have a Mic Input, making them both extremely powerful Vocoder/Ensemble machines too. Both versions even have Bluetooth technology, meaning you can stream audio wirelessly to the inbuilt speakers and play along with your favourite songs.
Graphical Editor/Librarian Software
Developed for sonic explorers who love to craft sounds down to the finest details. The free JUPITER-X Editor for macOS and Windows provides a friendly graphical interface that makes it even easier to harness the limitless creative potential of these powerful instruments. The Editor is especially useful for Roland Jupiter-Xm users.

Here’s What Roland Say:
“The Roland Jupiter-X/Xm is the flagship synthesiser for live performance, studio and stage. Available in two sizes, the full-sized 61-Key Jupiter-X and the 37-Mini-Key more portable Jupiter-Xm. Jupiter is the name that we have historically given to our flagship synthesiser range and the Jupiter-X/Xm are the latest contributors to that lineage.
It has been created with the demands of the most creative musicians in mind. The Jupiter-X features our best ever synth action (which respond to aftertouch), the hardware is built from premium materials and crafted to the highest standard, making it ready for life on the road.
We have made a name for ourselves by creating some of the most famous synthesiser products of all time, including the Jupiter-8 Juno-106, SH-101, JX-8P, XV-5080 (and many more). All are included within the Jupiter-X, faithfully recreated with our latest sound engine, Zen-Core, which can be found on the Roland Fantom.
This modern technology allows us to overcome previous limitations, now offering greater polyphony and sound layering options. You can layer 4 different synthesiser types, plus one Rhythm Layer, all at once. The Rhythm Layers also include some of our most famous drum machines, such as the TR-808, TR-909, TR-606/626, TR-707/727, CR-78 and many more.
The Jupiter-X/Xm offers lots of hands-on control for editing sounds, and the encoders are hi-resolution, with 1024 steps of adjustment for super-smooth operation and fine-tuning of sounds.
We have also included a new Intelligent Arpeggiator, named i-Arpeggio. This uses AI Technology to automatically create complimentary melodic and rhythm parts, based around your playing to help inspire your creativity. You can use the onboard sequencer to create your own custom patterns/songs and save those to one of the 256 scenes.
As part of the Zen-Core Range, the Jupiter-X/Xm are compatible with an eco-system available to all Zen-Core compatible products, enabling patch sharing and access to additional sounds/expansions via Roland Cloud.
Both Jupiter-X/Xm have built-in switchable speakers, ideal for quiet practice/monitoring.
The Roland Jupiter-X and Jupiter-Xm come with an extended warranty when registered with Roland Backstage.”
For users that are looking for a greater range of tones beyond synthesiser sounds and a much more powerful sequencer, check out the Roland Fantom Series.
