What is a Roland Arranger Keyboard?
An Arranger Keyboard is a Digital Instrument that includes all the sounds a gigging keyboardist would expect, plus a selection of interactive accompaniment styles. The accompaniments within an Arranger Keyboard will follow and support you as you perform. This gives keyboard players the ability to perform as if they were in an ensemble, band or orchestra for a fully polished performance.
The Range:
E-A7 | BK-5 | BK-3
Styles
A style usually refers to what musical genre you would like to perform. As well as choosing appropriate instruments, a style includes rhythm and chord voicings synonymous with the genre you have chosen. For example, if you choose a Jazz Trio style, the Arranger Keyboard will play a swung drum rhythm, walking bassline and a piano counter melody as you play the lead melody line.
Some of the Genres of music you can find in a Roland Arranger include Pop, Rock, Disco, Dance, Jazz, Blues, Latin, Traditional or World Music.
With a Roland Arranger, you typically have the choice of 1 Rhythm Part, 1 Bass Line and up to 6 harmony instruments per style. This is a fantastic feature for live musicians that want to perform larger arrangements, but do not have any access to other musicians.
To make an Arranger even more impressive, each Roland keyboard ensures you are the star. You can start with an introduction, which will lead you into a main section of music. You can build (and release) tension by using the 4 variation buttons within a style, with the arranger even playing fills to link sections together. Once you have wowed the crowd with your amazing performance, you can use the Endings button to perfectly finish every song.
Depending on the model you choose, you can control numerous parts of the supporting style or even revoice them. This means you can specify exactly which part is played by what instrument. If you don’t like a part, you can remove it altogether by muting it - ideal for more “stripped back” performances.
Expand Your Arranger with USB
If the included Styles aren’t enough, each Roland Arranger Keyboard can import additional styles from a USB memory stick (sold separately). You can also use the USB input to play Audio or MIDI Files.
When playing along to an Audio File, each Roland Arranger has the ability to change the key. In scenarios where you make be performing with a singer that has a different range to your audio recording, you can quickly transpose the audio to a suitable key. Roland Arrangers are one of a select few that can do this.
When using MIDI files, you can completely revoice the song arrangement using Makeup Tools. Whichever Roland Arranger Keyboard you choose will have a slightly different sound set included. By having the ability to revoice a MIDI file, you can use the best settings within your Roland Keyboard to optimise your performance.
A Portable Gig-Ready Instrument
The majority of arranger keyboards are compact, portable and have speakers built-in. This means you can start performing the moment the keyboard has powered on. Depending on the model you choose, the speakers can be loud enough to perform in small gigs, rehearsing or can be connected to external amplification for larger venues.
