The Nagra IV is a professional-grade analog reel-to-reel recorder renowned for its precision, reliability, and exceptional audio fidelity. Designed for field recording and broadcast applications, it offers three selectable tape speeds—38, 19, and 9.5 cm/s (15, 7 ½, 3 ¾ ips)—and supports both NAB and CCIR equalization standards. Equipped with two microphone inputs, the Nagra IV accommodates dynamic, T-power, and phantom-powered (48V) condenser microphones.
It also features a versatile line input with selectable voltage or current operation, a direct mixer input, and balanced line outputs with configurations depending on the installed transformer (4.4V or 1.55V). The recorder’s separate recording and playback heads allow for confidence playback, ensuring real-time monitoring of recorded material. Additional features include a built-in monitoring speaker with switchable source/tape monitoring, a reference generator for calibration, and a modulometer for precise level metering.
The unit also incorporates high-pass filters for recording and playback, an automatic level control, and a limiter for signal integrity. For advanced synchronization, the Nagra IV can be fitted with an optional NEOPILOT 50/60 Hz sync system with an integrated quartz generator. #
It operates on internal batteries or an external power supply (ATN-4), making it a flexible solution for both studio and location recording environments.
