HeadRush MX5 Processor Pedal Overview
The Headrush MX5 Processor Pedal is a realistic-sounding, easy-to-use guitar FX and amp modeller that’s suitable for the desktop, the studio, and the stage, all housed in a compact unit. Use the HeadRush MX5’s multi-core CPU and 4-inch high-resolution touch display to create and tweak your tone with the intuitive touch, drag and drop, and swipe controls.
Intuitive 4-inch touch display
The HeadRush MX5 has a responsive 4-inch touch display (Exclusive Patent Pending Technology) and an intuitive user interface made with guitarists in mind. You can touch, swipe and drag-and-drop to create rigs quickly. The high-resolution display is great for live performers, letting you tweak your sound through the expression pedal in Hands-Free mode.
Compact and portable
The Headrush MX5 is extremely compact and portable, weighing just 3.5lb/1.6kg and easily fits in your backpack.
Huge library of ultra-realistic models
The HeadRush MX5 has a huge library of 46 amplifier models, 15 cabinets with 10 microphone emulations, 300 impulse responses, and 63 premium FX. It features ultra-realistic simulations of vintage and modern gear with unmatched accuracy and dynamic response. There’s also a curated selection of premium HeadRush FX that will continue to expand with regular firmware updates that add new models and features based on user requests and feedback.
Third-party IR functionality
The HeadRush MX5 has over 300 impulse responses crafted in IoSR Studios with some of the most revered guitar cabs. You can also connect the MX5 to your Mac or PC via USB and drag-and-drop your own IRs, and the almost unlimited storage for IRs with 1024 and 2048 sample lengths makes the MX5 incredibly powerful.
Stomp, rig and hybrid footswitch modes
The MX5 has 3 built-in footswitches that toggle 3 Models or Scenes, change rigs, or access your setlists. You can quickly switch between the footswitch modes by holding footswitch 1 to select your desired mode. The Scenes feature lets you choose different model presets and turn models on or off in each rig with just one footswitch.
Gapless preset switching
The Headrush MX5 features gapless preset-switching, an exclusive HeadRush feature that makes sure reverb and delay-tails will continue to ring out, even after you’ve changed your preset or rig. This means your sound will be seamless.
Hands-free edit mode
Use the hands-free edit mode through the expression pedal to adjust any of the parameters while you’re in the middle of a song without needing to stop playing or bend over to reach the controls, letting you fine-tune your sound seamlessly.
Assignable expression pedal
The expression pedal has two modes - Classic Mode and Advanced Mode, alongside a toe switch that lets you switch between two banks—Expression Pedal A or B.
In Classic mode, if you assign a wah pedal to Expression Pedal A and a volume pedal to Expression Pedal B, only one of them will be active at any time; when you are controlling the wah pedal, the volume pedal will be bypassed, and vice versa.
In Advanced Mode, you can assign up to four parameters to each expression pedal (A and B). Moving the pedal will adjust all of its assigned parameters at the same time. Using the toe switch will select the other expression pedal and leave the current pedal’s parameters active and at their maximum values.
Powerful looper
The HeadRush MX5 has a built-in looper so you can layer parts while playing - useful for live performances as well as creating songs. You can load .WAV and .MP3 audio files into the Looper so you can play along with backing tracks, and save your new loops as .WAV files too. The maximum length of each loop is 5 minutes, and it can hold up to 20 minutes of layered audio at a time, making it incredibly powerful.
Use Global EQ to sound great in any environment
The Global EQ feature is great for adjusting your sound to any environment, whether you’re rehearsing in a small room or playing a large venue, you can fine-tune your presets to make sure you sound great wherever you are.
Organise your rigs for gigs
Use the Setlists feature to easily organise your rigs for a gig. A Setlist is a collection of rigs you have saved, which you can recall later on when you need them, which is ideal if you only need some of your rigs for a gig.
Built-in USB audio interface
When you connect the HeadRush MX5 to your computer via USB, you can use the MX5 as a 24-bit 96 kHz audio interface. In the Reamp option, you can add the tone colouration of an amp to a pre-recorded audio signal. This means you can send audio from your DAW through the MX5, and then record it back into your DAW, which saves you time and is ideal for changing the sound of a guitar lick without needing to play the same part again.
A huge range of connectivity options
The HeadRush MX5 has a huge range of connectivity options. With a ¼-inch guitar input, two ¼-inch TRS outputs that are switchable between amp or line level, a ⅛-inch output for headphones, a 5-Pin MIDI in/out through two ⅛-inch-to-MIDI adapters, as well as a built-in ¼-inch stereo FX loop that lets you add external pedals at any point in the signal chain. The HeadRush MX5 also has a ¼-inch TRS input to connect an external expression pedal. Combined, all the connectivity options make the HeadRush MX5 integrate seamlessly into your existing rig.
