Gibson Custom Firebird Custom, Ebony Fingerboard, Gloss Ebony Overview

Taking inspiration from mid-50s car tail fins, Gibson's original "Reverse" Firebird made its debut in 1963 with fewer than 1000 models being made. This stunning custom model incorporates nearly six decades of refinement to create a modern yet classic adaptation of a much loved design.

Swapping the traditional Firebird mini humbuckers for a pair of 490R and 498T pickups has made the Custom Firebird an instant and classic Gibson tone machine; upper mid and top enhancing Alnico V for the bridge, with smooth and smoky Alnico II for the neck - stunning timbres which somehow seems to be perfectly complimented by its premium Custom Shop finesse. Gibson have taken the Firebirds's retro-futuristic design and subtly dressed it with an ebony fretboard, blacker-than-black ebony finish, and complimentary gold hardware. CTS pots, a Switchcraft toggle switch, and a hand-wired loom further instil this guitar's unique vibe.

With its relentless tone and playability, this once radical design has been perfectly re-imagined for the 21st century... Every home should have a Firebird!

What do Gibson say?

The Firebird Custom retains the signature streamlined shape that makes it one of Gibson's most visually enticing guitars while adding upscale Custom appointments and powerful humbuckers for added visual and sonic punch. The Solid Mahogany construction is adorned with multi-ply binding, gold hardware, pearl inlays and a solid Ebony fingerboard. It's bold, beautiful and one hell of a fun ride.

I've wanted this guitar for years and GAK had it at the most (relatively) affordable price I've seen it anywhere for a long time so I finally bought it. It arrived on time and in excellent condition in a very robust Gibson custom hard case. It needed a couple of minor tweaks to the action and intonation but, in my experience, every new guitar does. It plays great, sounds great and looks gorgeous.
