Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre USB Audio Interface Overview

The Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre USB audio interface is a premium, pro-quality 18-in/8-out recording solution. The Clarett+ 4Pre strikes a solid balance between the portability of the 2Pre and the more comprehensive 8Pre. As you’d expect from the Focusrite Clarett+ series, the 4Pre delivers pristine audio via its four Air-enabled mic preamps and JFET instrument inputs.

Studio-Quality Recording

Focusrite’s Clarett+ 4Pre resides between the 2Pre and 8Pre in terms of onboard channels, featuring four high-performance Clarett+ preamps. If you’re running multiple stereo sources at once, such as a pedalboard, hardware synth or keyboard, or want to capture a small multi-track session/ensemble, the 4Pre is the one we’d recommend. Compared to the larger 8Pre, the 4Pre’s more compact form factor means it can comfortably fit onto a desk in a project studio or bedroom setup. If you’re regularly on the move, the Clarett+ 4 Pre is portable enough to be shoved into a bag and taken on the road.

The Clarett+ 4Pre audio interface is equipped with an ADAT optical input, which allows you to expand the number of inputs (using a device like the Clarett+ OctoPre) if you want to run a larger session. With this handy port, you can easily adapt the Clarett+ 4Pre to any recording situation. If you’re a producer that also wants to record live sessions, you can use the Clarett+ 4Pre standalone at your studio, then pair it up with an ADAT-compatible device when it’s time to record the band.

The Focusrite Clarett + 4Pre is a fantastic, all-around interface that has enough onboard inputs to handle most home and bedroom recording applications. With its world-class preamps, compact size and impressive feature-set, the Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre is a great choice if you’re in the market for a professional interface.

It’s early days - but the sound quality is great. Build quality ands hardware navigation also great. Control software is a bit counter-intuitive but you get used to it quickly enough. Only con so far I’m going to miss level meters on the channels (in the front of the interface).
