Electro-Harmonix Soul Food Transparent Overdrive Pedal Overview

Built for the tone-conscious player, The Soul Food Overdrive Pedal delivers transparent overdrive with excellent touch and response. Featuring internal higher voltage power rails, Soul Food gives you extra headroom and increased definition. It also has selectable true bypass or buffered bypass modes.

Adjustable controls include Volume, Treble and Drive knobs. Volume simply sets the overall output level of the pedal while Drive allows you to adjust the saturation and gain. You can also seamlessly produce glistening upper harmonics the Treble control. Its compact, rugged packaging ensures that it will be a reliable addition to your pedalboard.

A little underwhelmed. I have several Electro-Harmonix items with which I've been very happy and while this one basically delivered I wasn't impressed with the overdrive produced. One annoying feature is that though it can take a battery (which I'd need for a play-along group) it's nigh impossible to get a battery in the case and when I did, the base wouldn't screw back on fully at the battery end. I decided to return it, which is not to say it wouldn't be suitable for someone needing a medium overdrive and always having an extra mains socket to hand. On the plus side it comes with a power supply. It claims to draw only 22mA which sounds on the low side considering it's digital with several SM chips on board but I didn't bother to measure it.

A few years old now, but still a classic pedal. Easy to use and great tones.

I found the clean boost a little hollow sounding for me, my Danelectro Breakdown is better for that (but that is a more expensive pedal), however as an overdrive, this is much more versatile. You can dial in pretty much most types of overdrive/distortion, anything from subtle to over the top, this does the lot. Very impressive for the money & looks cute too

Good sound overall but a little thin - could do with a bit more oomph! Solidly built, but the footswitch is a little clunky All in all though a nice, usable pedal
