The Roland TR-606 Drumatix, produced from 1981 to 1984, is a legendary drum machine that uses analog synthesis to create its sounds, offering bass drum, snare, toms, cymbal, and hi-hat (both open and closed). These sounds, which cannot be edited, have been praised for their unique character, with a punchy snare, thudding kick, and sizzling hi-hats that stand out in various musical genres.
The TR-606 features a step sequencer capable of storing 32 patterns, which can be combined into song arrangements. Accents can be added for dynamic expression, and it was designed to work seamlessly with the Roland TB-303 Bass Line synthesizer via DIN sync for synchronized performances. Artists from a range of genres have embraced the TR-606, including The Sisters of Mercy, Skinny Puppy, Big Black, and Aphex Twin, as well as being a favorite in IDM circles.
Its influence even extends to electronic musician Kid606, whose stage name pays homage to the device. Its lasting impact on music stems from its accessible design and distinctive analog sound palette.
It has been tested by our Pro-Audio department and is fully functional!
