Roland’s original Octapad revolutionized electronic percussion, providing drummers and percussionists with a compact and versatile solution. Now, the Octapad SPD-30 takes this legacy even further by combining essential electronic percussion sounds with cutting-edge triggering technology in a rugged design built for demanding performers.
Expanded Creative Possibilities with More Kits
Version 2 of the Octapad SPD-30 introduces 49 new kits, bringing the total number to 99. This expanded selection allows you to explore a wide range of drum sets, orchestral percussion, and traditional world instruments from various cultures. Whether you need the punchy sound of a drum kit or the melodic textures of instruments from India, the Middle East, Africa, China, or Latin America, the Octapad has you covered. You can even back up your own custom kit data and import it into Version 2.
Controllable Phrase Loop Function for Layered Loops
With the onboard Phrase Loop function, you can create and store layered loops and phrases instantly. Version 2 adds the ability to control the start of the Phrase Loop using pad velocity, button presses, or a footswitch (optional). You can toggle between solo play (Kit mode) and phrase play (Phrase Loop mode), opening up exciting performance and recording possibilities. The updated library includes 50 preset phrases, and you can save your own phrase data on a USB Memory for easy access.
Convenient Kit Chains for Live Performances
Version 2 also introduces Kit Chains, organized into eight banks based on musical styles and instrument categories. You can choose from Drum Kits, Percussion, Orchestra Perc, Club Sounds, Melodic Perc, Melodic Synth, Sound Effects, and Expanded Kits. These Kit Chains provide ready-to-play setups for live performances, and you can easily edit them to suit your specific needs on stage.
Output Gain Function for Increased Signal Strength
To ensure your performance cuts through the mix, Version 2 adds an Output Gain function to the Octapad SPD-30. This function offers a +6 dB boost, providing a stronger signal when needed and ensuring your sound is heard with clarity and impact.
Sound Customization and Multi-Effects
Unlike its predecessor, the Octapad SPD-30 is not just a MIDI controller—it comes loaded with its own internal bank of high-quality sounds. You have full control over tuning, muffling, attack, pitch sweep, and other sound parameters, allowing you to customize each instrument to your liking. Additionally, the multi-effects engine offers 30 types of internal effects, including EQ, limiter, and seven Ambience types, enabling you to shape your sound and add depth and character to your performances.
Advanced Triggering Technology for Expressive Playing
Benefiting from Roland’s advanced V-Drum triggering technology, the SPD-30 delivers exceptional sensitivity and precise response. Each pad is isolated, ensuring accurate triggering with no crosstalk. You can connect up to four dual-trigger inputs and a hi-hat controller (compatible with Roland FD-8, VH-11) to create a compact drum set using external pads from the Roland KD, PD, PDX, and CY series. Furthermore, the Octapad SPD-30 can also accept triggers from acoustic drums through Roland’s RT series, allowing you to integrate your acoustic and electronic setups seamlessly.
